Privacy Statement

The Association for Laboratory Phonology (LabPhon) recognizes that visitors, members, and authors visiting the LabPhon website (the “Site”) may have concerns about privacy issues as they navigate the Internet. LabPhon is committed to the protection of personal information LabPhon receives from users of the Site. As a result, LabPhon will use reasonable efforts to ensure that the information you provide remains private and is used only for the purposes stated below.

Your use of the Site constitutes your agreement to this Privacy Statement. You should also review LabPhon’s Terms of Use in order to understand how you can utilize the information provided in the Site.

Collected Information

There are two primary types of users of the Site: Unregistered Users and Registered Users. Unregistered Users are individuals who navigate the Site without acquiring a registration. Registered Users are members, authors, reviewers, publishers, and other individuals who have completed a registration form and obtained a user name and password. Information collected through the Site from Registered Users is used by LabPhon to ensure that it has up-to-date information about the Registered Users.

Registered Users must complete a registration form. The site’s registration form requires specific contact information: name, e-mail address, and other identifying information. Unique identifiers (such as IDs and passwords) are collected to verify the user’s identity and for use as account numbers in the LabPhon record system. Authors may be asked for manuscript information, which is also stored by LabPhon.

Like many other websites, LabPhon may collect information about visitors and the manner in which visitors utilize and navigate the Site. This information helps website owners design their websites to better suit a visitor’s needs. For example, the Site may track the URL that you visited before you came to the Site, the URL of the website you visit after leaving the Site, and your IP address. LabPhon may use the IP address to help diagnose problems with LabPhon’s server, and to administer the Site. The information collected in this manner is not associated with a particular individual and no personal information is collected from Unregistered Users, unless an Unregistered User voluntarily provides such information to LabPhon.

Sharing of Information

Registered User information is shared with the publishers of LabPhon’s publications for the purpose of facilitating mailing of hard copies of the journal to each member. The publisher also receives information about authors and reviewers in order to facilitate communication with the publisher during the publication process. LabPhon cannot guarantee protection of the data provided to the publisher. The information is not shared with any third-parties for direct marketing or any other purposes not disclosed in this Privacy Statement.

LabPhon may be asked to divulge personal information to law enforcement and other government agencies. LabPhon will comply with such requests when required to do so or when LabPhon has a good faith belief that the requested disclosure is necessary to comply with legal obligations. LabPhon will ask all government and law enforcement officials for acceptable reasons that LabPhon believes, in its sole discretion, support the request for disclosure of the information.

LabPhon is the sole owner of any and all information collected through the use of the Site. In the event that LabPhon, or substantially all of its assets, are acquired by a third-party, the information collected through the Site will be one of the transferred assets.
