Given the location of UBC relative to the rest of Vancouver, it will probably make sense for most conference attendees to stay on campus rather than being off-campus and commuting. There is a wide range of attractions and public services on the UBC campus, including restaurants, museums, recreational facilities, public beaches, banks, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc., and the cost of staying at UBC is significantly lower than the cost of staying downtown.

Accommodation booking

We have arranged for several different kinds of on-campus accommodation to be available for conference participants. The official conference rates are listed separately for each of these options below. These rates are extremely competitive for Vancouver-area lodging, especially in the high season. Booking is now open through the following website:

The link above automatically fills in the LabPhon17 discount code and specifies your travel dates as July 5 – July 9, 2020. Please feel free to change the dates: the LabPhon17 discount will apply to your booking as long as your stay starts on or after July 1 2020 and ends no later than July 13, 2020. The website shows the suites by default (options 2 and 3 below); the budget options can be viewed by clicking on the "Budget rooms in shared apts." tab (though this tab may not be shown if there are no more budget rooms available). 

All rooms will be held until June 4, 2020 or until they are sold out. After this point, any additional guest room will be subject to market rates, so please be sure to book early to avoid disappointment!

Accommodation options

1. Ponderosa Commons ($75-$145 / night)

Ponderosa Premium Single ($75 / night): Private bedroom with single bed in a four-bedroom apartment with WiFi and phone. Guests share common lounge with flat panel TV, kitchen (not equipped), dining area and two washrooms each with a shower.  Complimentary coffee. (Note: If you want to share the apartment with another conference attendee, you can note this on your reservation in the comments section. The accommodations team will try their best to put you and your fellow attendees together, but if the dates of stay differ slightly or you are different genders, the request may not be accommodated.)

Ponderosa Studio ($145 / night): Private suite with double bed, ensuite washroom, flat-panel TV, telephone, WIFI, fully-equipped kitchen, complimentary tea and coffee. Maximum 2 guests per suite.

2. Walter Gage Residence ($165-$215 / night)

Gage Studio ($165 / night): Suite with queen bed, private washroom, sitting area with telephone and flat-panel TV, WIFI, fully-equipped kitchen, air conditioning and complimentary coffee.  Maximum 2 guests per suite.

Gage One-Bedroom Suite ($215 / night): Suite with king bed in bedroom, queen sofa bed in living room and private washroom. Features include air-conditioning, telephone, flat-panel TV, WIFI, fully-equipped kitchen and complimentary coffee. Base rate will be based on single or double occupancy; $25.00 charge, per night, applies for each additional guest, maximum 4 guests per suite (non-family members under the age of 19 are not permitted to share a bed).

3. West Coast Suites ($225 / night)

Hotel suite with king bed in bedroom, queen sofa bed in living room and private washroom. Features include luxury linens and amenities, fully-equipped kitchen with microwave, flat-panel TV, complimentary coffee, air conditioning, WIFI, telephone and in-room safe. Rate based on single or double occupancy; $25.00 charge, per night, applies for each additional guest, maximum 4 guests per suite (non-family members under the age of 19 will not be permitted to share a bed).

Housekeeping services

Housekeeping Service for the Gage Studios Suites, Gage One-Bedroom Suites, West Coast Suites and Ponderosa Studio Suites will include beds made daily, towels changed daily, linens changed weekly.

Housekeeping Service for the Ponderosa Premium Singles will include beds made upon arrival, two towels and soap provided, towels changed after one week, room cleaned after one week. Linens provided but not changed during stay. Common area cleaned daily.
