The following individuals won the Best Student awards at PaPE 2019, held in Lecce, Italy, 17-19 June 2019.

Mayrim Llorens Montserin won the Best Poster award for "Phoneitics and distribution of Tourettes' verbal tics produced during active speech" and Peng Li won the Best Talk award for "Durational hand gestures facilitate the learning of L2 vowel length contrasts," co-authored with Florence Baills and Pilar Prieto.

We are honored to announce that Janet Pierrehumbert, founding member of the Association for Laboratory Phonology, has been elected as a Member of the National Academy of Sciences. She joins a small number of linguists in the Academy, including Noam Chomsky, Paul Kay, Bill Labov, and Barbara Partee.

Simon Wehrle of the University of Cologne won the Best Student Paper award, sponsored by the Association for Laboratory Phonology, at ProsLang – Workshop on the Processing of Prosody across Languages and Varieties, held in Wellington, New Zealand, 29-30 November 2018. Simon’s paper, co-authored with Timo Roettger and Martine Grice, was entitled Exploring the dynamics of backchannel interpretation: The meandering mouse paradigm.



There will be a special session on laboratory phonology at the biennial meeting of ABRALIN,Associação Brasileira de Linguística in  Maceió, Brazil in May, 2019.



Call for papers on “Techniques and Methods for Investigating Speech Articulation” for a Special Issue of Laboratory Phonology.



The Association congratulates the winners of the Best Student Paper Awards at the LabPhon 16 conference! The award for best oral presentation went to Bryn Hauk (University of Hawaii at Manoa), and the best poster award was awarded jointly to Myriam Lapierre (University of California, Berkeley) and Simon Ritter (University of Cologne).



The journal Laboratory Phonology has received an Impact Factor of 1.0 for the 2017 release (0.87 without self-cites, both up from 0.667 for last year; data from Journal Citation Reports), and is ranked 73/181 in the category of Linguistics (up from 90/182).



Aoju Chen and Lisa Davidson have both agreed to continue as Associate Editors of the Association journal.



The Association is pleased to announce that Lauren Hall-Lew has joined the editorial team of Laboratory Phonology for a four-year term as Associate Editor.
